The roof is an important structural component of your home. But more than that, your roof also keeps your home warm by preventing all the warm air that your heating system works hard to produce from escaping.

2. Solar Panels
Once you’ve got a shiny new roof, or at least restored your old roof, you should consider installing solar panels. On sunny days, solar panels can completely take over the electricity production of your home, and sometimes even produce an excess. You can pair them with batteries to store some of this extra energy, so you get even more free electricity.
This can save a huge amount of money, especially in the summer, but you can still get some use out of your solar panels on shorter winter days or slightly less sunny days.
3. New Windows and Doors
The exterior doors and windows of your home are the first thing anyone sees as they approach your house. But more importantly than that, they can also be a huge weakness for your home’s insulation.
If the seal between the doors and windows fails, warm air can escape. Even worse, drafts, leaks, and small pests can work their way in.
4. Heat Pump
If your heating bill is consistently high, one option could be to invest in a heat pump. A heat pump is an efficient and eco-friendly way to heat your home by simply using the ambient heat from the air or ground outside.
Just like a traditional boiler system, you will need to maintain your heat pump to keep it working properly and get the most out of it.
5. Smart Meters
One of the best ways to control your heating bills is with a smart meter. This allows you to track how much you spend on your heating, as well as set timers and alter the heating from your phone. With a smart meter, you can even turn the heating on or off when you’re out of the house.
