What Can I Have in My Garden Room?

What Can I Have in My Garden Room?

We have been thinking for a while about getting a garden room. The need for an extra room somewhere is increasingly growing! Our house is a 3 bed and both my daughters have a bedroom each, therefore I have no room for an office. Which I desperately need! I currently have a desk in the corner of the living room, or I work on the kitchen table. Once we have saved enough for the extra room in the garden, I would love to make it cosy and warm enough for winter use. Hence my blog post of ideas today on what I can have in my garden room, especially to make it a cosy winter garden space to work. A girl can dream!

Warmth

As I’m getting older I feel the cold more, I can’t help it. I need to be warm when I’m working. So a must for me is to have a warm garden room. I’ve seen that you can have them insulated and even have underfloor heating. So those are great ideas. But if you have a smaller budget, portable heaters, are a more flexible option. The dream would be to have it warm and cosy with a wood burner! The flip side to this is when it gets too warm. On these occasions, a split system air conditioning system could really pay off.

Garden Room Furniture

Most important is a desk and a comfy chair for work. A spare desk for photographing would be a good idea if there is space. Looking at the Hawksbeck Garden Rooms I can see there are many designs in different sizes which can work for many setups.

As an avid reader, I need a reading corner and therefore a cosy armchair or small sofa. So when I take my work breaks I can relax in this space.

Now I would love to add a hammock or a hanging egg chair for a fun and relaxing seating option! I would use floor cushions and poufs for more seating and a laid-back feel. Especially for when the girls come barging in!

Cosy Garden Room Decor

Ahh my favourite part – making the garden room my own with soft blankets, rugs, cushions and twinkly lights. Creating a warm relaxing environment is what inspires me when I’m writing. I know some prefer a clean, no-clutter space to get work done, but that’s never been me. I love all the things around me. Photos of my girls on the wall and desk, memories at the beach and long walks in the woods. This is inspiring.

Another idea is to decorate for all the different seasons so for a winter-themed space, wreaths, pinecones, and seasonal flowers. For the summer, I would have beach-inspired decor like seashells, driftwood, and nautical-themed items for a coastal feel.

To keep the garden room in touch with the garden, I would have lots of potted plants dotted about the garden room. They add a touch of life to the space, don’t you think? Of course, there are also many benefits of indoor plants – they can improve air quality and the ambience.
