You may already use mulch in your beds, but if you are not, it’s definitely something you will want to start doing. There are a lot of things you get out of using mulch. For one thing, it famously helps to suppress weeds and helps your compost to be healthier. But it also generally has the effect of making your beds look neat, and again giving a sense of that managed look to the garden as a whole. So this is a very simple way to give your garden a polished look easily.
Prune & Trim
Simply keeping on top of your pruning and trimming is also going to help a great deal. Most of all, you should make sure that you are pruning your perennials and keeping them looking as good as possible. This is basic but also very crucial. Overgrown shrubs and plants drag the whole place down, whereas if you can keep them looking as neat as possible that is really going to help in a big way. It makes everything look cared for without spending any money at all, which is also a nice thing to be able to do.
Upgrade Your Pots
If you are still primarily using plastic pots from the nursery, you may want to consider swapping those out for some higher-quality ones. They are fine for growing at first, but if you want to start making things look good for show, you’ll really want to consider using terracotta pots or even painted concrete planters or something like that. This is going to help make your whole garden look so much smarter in no time, and you’ll be amazed at what a difference that can really make.
