A deep declutter is much like the traditional spring ‘deep clean’. You get right into the corners of your home and get rid of the mess, and you don’t leave any room untouched. If you want the mess gone, you’re going to need to pay attention to the details!
And if that’s the kind of home project that’s on your mind right now, we’ve got a little list of the three things you’ll need to make a proper start. If you’re in the middle of preparing a pre-declutter checklist, make sure they’re noted down and get ticked off!
Time – and selling on Vinted!
That’s the one thing you’ll need above all else! If you’ve got enough time to get your deep declutter done, you won’t need to take one side of your home at a time. You’ll be able to get the entire task finished and feeling like a weight off in one go.
This usually means taking around a week to get everything sorted, listed, and out of your life (or sold on Vinted), but some people may only need four days for the entire project. Don’t feel bad if you need more time though, and don’t be afraid to stop halfway through and allocate a couple more days to your ongoing task.
If you’re selling on Vinted, build in a little extra time for the “selling” side too:
- Wash or wipe items down, remove lint, and check for any flaws before listing (and photograph any marks honestly).
- Take clear photos in natural light, including labels, close-ups, and a full-length shot so buyers know exactly what they’re getting.
- Write simple, keyword-friendly descriptions (brand, size, colour, condition, and material) and add relevant tags so your listings show up in search.
- Price realistically—check what similar items have sold for, and leave a little room for offers or bundle discounts.
- Keep packaging ready (mailers, tape, printer or handwritten labels) so you can post quickly once something sells.
Giving yourself more time, and not trying to rush, means your declutter is done properly with due care and attention, and you’ll be more likely to actually shift items on Vinted without feeling totally drained afterwards, either.
A Skip
Removing so much clutter from your home is going to leave your hallways, staircase, and garden covered in boxed up bits from the deep corners of your home. That’s not a good look, and it’s not safe either! And if you’re on a busy schedule as is, who knows when you’re going to have the time to remove everything yourself?
As such, if you’re going to be throwing away the majority of the items you’re removing, look into skip hire and get a good sized one for your needs. Remember, there’s always double the amount of waste you were expecting, so even if you want to donate as much as possible, this is still a worthy consideration.
A Cleaning Trolley
If there’s a trolley to pull, you won’t need to keep fetching things from one room to the other. You can just put everything you need to clean your home with on this trolley and just pull it as you go. It’s a little easier than just having a bucket for the task, as there’s more room, and you won’t have to wear a heavy tool belt the whole time either.
Make sure your gloves, antibacterial wipes and spray, bleach products, microfibre cloths, and even your broom and/or mop are on or attached to this trolley. Pop a can of polish on there, make sure you’ve got a long handled duster for the corner cobwebs too, and always have a spare roll of black bags!
