Believe it or not, summer is just around the corner. If you’ve been dealing with a long winter and a wet spring, you’re probably ready for some warm weather and beautiful days (and evenings!) spent outside.
What better place to enjoy yourself and relax than in the comfort of your own backyard?
But, getting your yard ready for summer after a long winter and spring isn’t always easy – especially if you aren’t sure where to start.
Whether you want to create a beautiful small garden this year, or you want to be able to relax and look out at the natural scenery from your deck, there are a few tips you can put into practice to get your yard summer-ready in a hurry.
1. Get Pests Under Control
If you plan to have a garden or flowers anywhere in your yard, it’s important to make sure you’re keeping pests and insects under control. Some can be beneficial, while others can wreak havoc on your garden and cause some unsightly problems in your yard.
There are plenty of natural ways to keep pests away, so don’t be afraid to do your research. Avoid using chemicals or toxins in your yard, as it can be harmful to other animals, and especially the environment.
2. Spruce Up Your Deck
After the year we’ve all had with social distancing, who doesn’t want to enjoy themselves with a party or get-together this summer? If you’re excited to entertain, consider hiring a deck cleaning service to make sure your backyard porch looks great for your guests.
Cleaning or refinishing your deck can make your home the central hub for all outdoor parties. So, while it might seem like a small thing, it can make a big difference in how your outdoor gatherings are viewed.

3. Take Care of Your Lawn
You don’t want to spend a lot of time and money in a garden or taking care of shrubs and bushes just to ignore your lawn. Unfortunately, far too many people do just that.
Make sure you’re taking the time to mow, aerate, and water your lawn as needed. Just taking a look at the lawn should be an easy indicator of what needs to be done. You may also need to fertilize at times, or plant grass wherever there are “bald” spots on the ground.
If you don’t feel as though you can do it by yourself, consider hiring a landscaper or lawn care service. The landscaping industry is getting bigger all the time, with over $99 billion made in 2019 alone. So, there is no shame in asking for help when you don’t have a green thumb.
These suggestions barely scratch the surface when it comes to how you can get your yard spruced up. The idea is to take things one step at a time. When you do, you won’t rush through the process of getting your yard in top shape. Instead, you can actually enjoy every second of it and find the calming tranquility in getting your hands dirty and creating an environment you love.
