When you want to rearrange your living room, it might seem quite a simple job to do. Of course, you’re going to need a bit of time and energy to shunt the sofa and armchairs around, but it’s otherwise an easy task to get on with!
Or is it? After all, the living room has quite a few devices, including your TV, radiators, HVAC vents, and even your Wi-Fi router. Rearranging the space needs to take all of these things into account – as well as how they work.
As such, if you want to give your living room a makeover, here are 3 danger areas to be aware of.
Putting Furniture Too Close to the Walls
You don’t want to overstuff the space, to begin with. However, if the furniture goes too close to the walls, hot air can get trapped in the fine lines between insulated cavities and the back of the sofa.
And when this happens, your walls can suffer. Paint and wallpaper can strip off, and you might even notice more of a musty smell around the house. If you’re clearing space with your new layout, don’t push things too far back!
The Wiring in Your Walls
So you want to move the TV from one side of the room to the other. However, there’s no socket on the other side to plug the TV into.
If you run an extension lead around the bottom of the wall, the result leaves you feeling even less satisfied with your new layout than you were with the old one! And if your TV is wall-mounted, you might need to put new brackets on the wall you’re moving it to.
Either way, you’re seriously considering getting a new socket installed and/or drilling into the wall for mounting purposes. Be careful! You need to know where the wires are inside the wall, and you may be best off hiring an electrician to make the move for you.
Dust Build-Up Zones
Every room in the home will have them, from the kitchen to the bathroom to the bedroom. And when dust builds up, you might not even notice!
It’s not until the sun starts streaming through the window, to show up how much of it is even just floating in the air, that you realise how desperately you need to go round with a duster.
Think about this in your living room. If you’ve moved the TV to a spot where it’s going to catch more of the sun’s rays, how often will you need to clean the screen?
What about the storage in your living room? If you want to rearrange because the cleaning was taking it out of you, you may need to pop your decor in air tight display boxes. That’ll cut down the time on the deep cleaning!
In the living room, function is just as important as form! Keep track of these hazards as you rearrange your space.
