Seeking a home is a great deal of fun for the most part, right up until the moment where it isn’t. When you’ve visited over ten houses and you’ve still not found something you like or that which gives you what you need within your budgetary allowance, then it can feel more like a chore than anything else.
This is also compounded by the fact that if you’ve put your own house on the market, and are generating interest, then the pressure is on to find a house you like and manage that process from both angles. In other words, if someone wants to move in, you’re going to have to move out.
But the last thing you need is to feel rushed and pressured into living somewhere when you’re trying to anchor your purpose to a new home, and enjoy the next chapter of your life. When you’re stuck in this situation, where do you turn? What adjustments do you make? Well, to start with, it might be that postponing your plans to move could be a good idea. If that’s not possible, then consider the following:
Use Reliable Estate Agents
It might be that you need to change the estate agents service that you’ve been using so far. Not all estate agents have access to the full gamut of houses in a given area, and so it can be helpful to ask another service for the properties they are tasked with managing before you move on and search for another area. Focus on those who have intimate knowledge of a location, as when they both help the buyers and sellers in tandem with one another, you’re much more likely to find a reliable pairing.

Widen Your Budget Or Lessen Your Standards
It can sometimes be that being a little more flexible with your budget can help you pursue an opportunity you may wish to chase. Of course, this sounds eerily similar to ‘just have more money!’ but that’s not necessarily how you widen your budget.
It might be, for instance, that you decide that what you’re willing to pay for a certain feature doesn’t actually hold much value, and so forgoing the pool could grant you a much better home with a better and more recent finish, or a driveway that you don’t have to fix. In this way, incrementally (but not wholly!) lessening or adjusting your standards can help you open yourself up to more creative and promising options in the future.
Consider Further Afield
It could be that simply widening how far you’re willing to search can help you not only find a home you could potentially compromise for, but enable you to see just how much your spending power could get you in other areas. Even if you don’t choose to go for those homes, having that firsthand knowledge can help you return to your usual search with a more measured approach.
With this advice, we hope you can make the most out of house hunting, even during those moments where it feels like you’ll never for the best result.
