Have a budget in mind
Furniture can be really expensive, and this is definitely the case when it comes to sofas. Because of this, it’s important to keep a budget in mind, as this will help narrow your search and stop you from spending more than you can afford. If you do find something outside your budget, there may be options available depending on if the store or company offers finance agreements, as this can allow you to pay monthly and spread the cost over one, two or even three years.
Get your measurements right
Possibly the most important thing to remember when choosing a new sofa is the measurements of the sofa and the space you have available in your home. The last thing you want is on delivery day, you realise the sofa isn’t going to fit into your home, or when it does get into your living room, it takes up far more space than you initially thought. For this reason, it’s crucial to have accurate measurements of the sofa and your living room. If possible, it’s a good idea to mock-up how big the new sofa would be in your living room to give yourself an idea of how it would look.
Think about colour and material
When looking at a sofa in a showroom, it can be easy to fall in love with it, but harder to picture it in your own home. Because of this, thinking about the colour and the material of the sofa is really important. Many of us will want something that will fit in with our existing furniture and design style, so keeping your living room colours in mind is crucial. When choosing materials for a new sofa, it’s also important to remember that the picture you see online or the model you see in a showroom won’t look exactly like your new sofa when it gets delivered. With all materials, but leather in particular, there can be slight colour changes between different batches of material and also, the colour will change with age and wear. This is where buying from a showroom where you can see the sofa in person and take a look at different material options is beneficial.
