Many of us will be living in some sort of property right now. You may have a rental property or perhaps have one that you own or have a mortgage on. No matter what situation you find yourself in, you could have goals when it comes to the next steps or the changes that you want to make in your home. However, what could you do?
This last year has been unprecedented and it has meant that so many people have had to put their lives on hold. But this year holds more promise that things can get back to normal and when it comes to your home you may want to start thinking about some of the changes you could make or the goals you might have when it comes to the next steps. With that in mind, you may want some inspiration on what you could do so here are some ideas that could help.

Buying your first place
If you currently rent right now then maybe you have your sights set on buying your first place. It could be that you have been saving or you want to continue to save so that you can reach your goal of money to be able to have enough for a deposit on a new place. Buying your first place is very exciting, and it can mean that you look at moving to a different area, a specific style of property or even look at buying a property that you can renovate to make it your own or to increase the value.
Moving home
Maybe you already own a home and are looking to move on. There may be a few different reasons as to why you might be looking to move house. It could be that you need more bedrooms because your family has grown. It might be that you need to move to be closer to work. Looking for houses online can be hard but as long as you know what it is you want and also the budget you have you should be able to identify some options to view and potentially put an offer in. It can be an exciting time and opportunity to be able to get to where you want to be, and moving home could be a big change for you this year.
Working on the garden
Many of us have spent a good deal of time in the garden, so it might be that you want to work on it this year. Perhaps you want a place to sit and relax when the weather gets better. Enjoy BBQ’s or cooking outside. It maybe that you like the idea of growing your own vegetables and having a patch in place so that you can enjoy fresh ingredients. The more you focus on the garden itself, the more time you will spend out there enjoying it.
Improving the curb appeal
Another great option to consider would be to look at improving your curb appeal. This could be investing in new windows and doors, it could be that you re-paint any paintwork on brick or cladding or maybe just tidy up the driveways and path areas. The curb appeal is the chance to give a decent first impression so it may be something you want to focus on if you are planning on selling your home this year.
Renovating a big ticket room
There are certain rooms in the home that can be renovated and add significant value to your home, this includes the kitchen and the bathroom. They are often an expensive renovation project to take on, but they can also add a lot of value so it can be worth it. The kitchen is often the hub of the home, so making more of the area with new countertops and cupboards, tiles and lighting fixtures could really improve the space that you have. You could also look at the bathroom and improve the space. It is one of the most used rooms of the home so taking time to invest in it could improve your home as well as add value.
Extension
It could be that you need more living space in your home. Perhaps living or bedroom space because your family has grown. But you don’t want to move house. This is when extension could be a great opportunity for you. You could extend at the back or at the side, and it could be a single or double story. It can cost quite a biot to do and take some time, but a great way of looking at it is the increased square footage which will increase the value of your home.
Converting a garage or basement area
If you have a garage or basement space then you could look at converting that into living space. It means that you get the benefit of extension without the big outlay or work that needs to be carried out. If you don’t use these spaces then they can be wasted so it is a great way to utilise extra space in your home.
Changing the use of a room
